Slip the last stitch from the right needle back to the left needle. Turn.

Bring the yarn to the front of the work.

At the edge where the buttonhole was begun, cast on the number of stitches you bound off plus one additional stitch.( knitted or cable work nicely- twisted is too loose). Turn

Slip the first stitch from the left needle to the right needle as if to knit. Pass the extra cast on stitch over the next stitch; then slip this stitch back to the left needle.

Feb lady sweater progress and what I should have done

we all make small errors - mine was not counting the marked stitches in my stitch count.  So I'll have an additiona 7 stitch repeat in the back of my sweater.

so for the Large with xl sleeves what I should have changed was:

for Large with xl sleeves.

  1. Cast on 83
  2. Row 4: k14 for first marker, k15 for last
  3. Repeats of 5 and 6: repeat 28 times
  4. button bands are 7 and eyelet increases total 29. (after eyelet increase total of 336 stitches.
  5. On the separate the sleeves: k7, slip marker,k42 in lace pattern, slip 70 onto scrap yarn, cast on 7,k98,slip 70 onto scrap yarn, cast on 7, k42,slip marker, k7. (Total of 210 stitches)

March 18, 2009

my first February Lady sweater. I measure a 46 which is between the L and XL (go figure). My swatch did grow a bit after being washed and blocked so I’m going to make the Large.

For the neckline to be higher, I am going to do as others have cast on for the small and working increases to the large. I also would like the lace to start below my breasts. I think that I will make the sleeves long. That’s the plan.. Here goes.

March 20, 2009  I’m on the yoke and it’s going great. I did the math and I need xl sleeves. The Large called for 24 repeats on the yoke - 26 takes me to the proper number of stitches since I cast on the smaller neck. To get the sleeve width, I need to repeat the yoke 2 more times for a total of 28 then lose 2 stitches later from the body.

So details that I changed.

  1. Cast on 83
  2. Row 4: k14for the markers
  3. Repeats of 5 and 6: repeat 28 times
  4. On the button bands to make the math come out right instead of the 8 for L or 10 for xl, I’m using 9 to take out the 2 extra stitches on the body from the yoke repeats for the sleeves.
  5. On the separate the sleeves: k9, slip marker,k42 in lace pattern, slip 70 onto scrap yarn, cast on 7,k98,slip 70 onto scrap yarn, cast on 7, k42,slip marker, k9. (Total of 214 stitches)

finished the yoke and ready to push on.  I'm going to move to scrap yarn and try the thing on... I'll know soon if I'm making a sweater or am just going to frog this puppy.

Was so sorry to finish this. I still love the pattern even though this is my second one is so many months.  This pattern was my first knitted on edging and I loved it on both of the shawls I did. I always thought it would be boring but you get such immediate gratification as the lace trucks off your needles. So… what next?

Who else needs a shawl?

Monroe with the bear

My precious daughter in law Melissa has taken lots of pictures of Monroe with the little bears and I wanted to collect a few so that I could see all the lovies that these bears get from sweet Monroe.

I also found a picture of Monroe as a tiny baby wearing the EZ BSJ that I knitted for her.  Is she beautiful or what?

FInished Highland Triangle Shawl!

Loved this project.  It knit up in less than a month and is nice.  I made a few mistakes but they just give character.

I would do another one of these in a heartbeat but I don't need one and don't know who else in my family would actually wear a shawl.

I also frogged back the other shawl that I had knitted and was never happy with.    It will now be resting to become the socks that it was really destined to be.

Highland Triangle Shawl

I am also working on the Highland Triangle Shawl.  It is usually done in lace weight yarn but I wanted something really warm so I am using dusty rose worsted weight wool.

This image is of someone else using the same pattern.

I am almost through with it and I started it on December 29th, 2008.  It has flown!  I am on the border.  The center section is a total yawn and I am sure that I made lots of mistakes but the border is simple, clean and engaging.  Hope to finish it while it is still cold in Texas.

Then I'll get back to my mitered square blanket done in Tahki cotton. Much easier to work on in the summer!

Mitered square blanket

Since last spring I have been working on the mitered square blanket from Mason Dixon knitting.  Here is a picture of how far along I am and then the way it is supposed to look.

I am making the square but it will look more like a knitted quilt ... I like the ordered elements.

I have made a lot of little square and sewed a lot of big (4 block squares) but there is a lot left to do.

I am having shoulder surgery again in February so whatever doesn't get done between now and then will have to wait 3-4 months.

Made 2 more bears for Monroe

Monroe is so attached to her "beddy bear" that she needs one for day care naps, one for night time and one for the washer.  Melissa was having to sneak the bear out Saturday morning and hope that it was dry (organic cotton) by bedtime.  She is working too hard for that kind of stress.

This picture of Monroe features her Aunt Naomi (holding Monroe), Beddy Bear (in Monroe's arms) and Granddad holding his teddy from when he was Monroe's age.  Granddad likes to dress for special occasions like Christmas.
